Furniture Repair

Furniture Repair

Gentle Hands Restoration does furniture repairs in the Durham Region which includes Newcastle, Bowmanville, Courtice, Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, Uxbridge and Port Perry.  We also repair furniture for Port Hope, Cobourg, Lindsay, Scarborough and surrounding areas.

Part of our restoration process is repairing the furniture that we are in the process of restoring.  We repair furniture of many different varieties and many differant kinds of repair.  There is a shop fee per hour for repairs.  Our specialty is repairing antique furniture but we repair any kind of wood furniture.  Sometimes the repair is as simple as regluing a chair, or the side of a dresser drawer.  Other times the repairs are much more complicated when a piece of furniture has really been damaged.

Antique furniture for the most part has been around a least 100 years.  Wood shrinks and warps depending on how the furniture was stored or used over the years.  There have been  a few times when we repair a piece of furniture and it doesn't meet the customer's expectations.  For instance, if an antique table has been severely water damaged and cracked down the middle, we may be able to put the table back together but if the boards are warped, the table may never be perfect again.  You should always let us know what your expectations are.

We do many kinds of furniture repairs; chair spindles, chair stretchers, drawer sides and bottoms, veneer repairs, and all joint repairs, epoxy repairs to badly burned or wood rot areas

I must tell you.  If it were not for my husband Raymond, "Gentle Hands Restoration" would not be the company that it is.  My husband is incredibly innovative.  He works fulltime at another job but his passion is repairing furniture.  He looks at the pieces as if they were a puzzle..  Recently I had brought home a coffee table that had been smashed by two teenagers that were wrestling in the familyroom.  My husband did not even come in the door...he headed straight for the shop to look over the piece.  No challenge is too big for him. Raymond is the "R" in Repair.
